Thanks to the thousands of people who came through for the Venice Art Walk last Sunday!  The Venice Art Walk and Auctions are a fundraiser for the Venice Family Clinic, which serves up some quality healthcare for the under- and un-insured people of my community.

So, for Sunday’s event, I decided to open up the studio and use it for it’s purpose rather than attempt to hang a gallery.  I figure people had wandered into enough studios with work framed on the walls and listened to enough artist’s bs-ing about their work, and showing them what I really do would perhaps be more interesting (it certainly was for me).  It seemed to be the right choice, I was more at home doing my thing, and it became a more interactive experience.

I photographed actress Lilan Bowden and model John Kilar (who is also in my book, Shooting Male), as well as sometimes-intern Arden Ash, who has been helping out on a number of shoots lately, and whom I’ve always wanted to photograph (beyond stand-in model).  I’ve also been wanting to photograph Lilan since I met her, and with the help of makeup artist Siobhan Carmody and hair designer Noogie Thai, we transformed her a few times and she proved to be an amazing model.  Thanks also to her other half, Troy Simpson who helped with just about everything that day, and to Mike Stone for the same!  Had a lot of great volunteers that day.

Next year… If the Venice Art Walk will have me again, we’ll do it up all over again!
